Customary Tenancy

A customary tenancy is different from leases, because the customary tenants holds the property in perpetuity which is subject to only one requirement which is good behaviour by them as grantees of the property under the customary tenure.

Where misbehaviour is established and proved, it is usually punished by imposition of fine by the grantor. While, the consent or approval of the grantees (customary tenants) is required by the grantor before he can grant same property or land to another party.
